Our Founder and Executive Director
Born out of clinical gaps in innnovation, Dr. Marc Succi created MESH in 2016 within Massachusetts General Hospital / Harvard Medical School.
A Toronto native, graduate of Harvard Medical School, and previous MIT researcher, Dr. Succi’s work is focused on device invention, intellectual property, business-in-medicine, medical content production, and education. He holds 9 published or pending device patents. Along with Bob Langer and Jeff Karp, he co-invented the core stem-cell technology that was licensed to and forms the basis of Frequency Therapeutics (Cambridge, MA), who recently had their IPO with a market cap > $400 million. He is also the founder of two medically-focused startups, and currently the CEO of one.
Having experienced first-hand the frustration of physicians and trainees attempting to conceptualize, validate, and prototype ideas, Dr. Succi frequently encountered others with the same issue. He decided to create a infrastructure and framework to aid in transnational innovation, through both core education and materials prototyping and manufacturing with direct pipelines to patent and licensing offices. He founded MESH in 2016 after buy-in from MGH administration and support from MGH Radiology.
Dr. Succi has been named to the Forbes Magazine Top 30 Under 30 in Science and Healthcare List, won the MIT Data Prize, won the Massachusetts Medical Society Information Technology Award, named one of the top Outstanding Young Entrepreneurs and Innovators by CEO World, and awarded Governor General’s Medal of Canada. Partners Healthcare and MGH awarded Dr. Succi the 2017, 2018, and 2019 Partners Innovation Award for his work in medical devices.
